Path of air embolus to the heart. Arrows indicate the air travels through the major veins in the pelvis, to the inferior vena cava, up through the torso and into the heart. 3. Air embolus in the heart. Arrows indicate the air entering the heart through the inferior vena cava, passing through the right atrium and accumulating in the right ventricle preventing the heart from functioning normally.
