Male Figure with Spinal Fracture, Cord Compression, and Compartment Syndrome Secondary to Right Foot Fracture - Medical Illustration, Human Anatomy Drawing
This medical exhibit depicts the various injuries including lumbar compression fractures at the L1/T12 region. An inset sagittal (side cut-away) view shows the compression fracture and shows how the fracture fragments protrude posteriorly into the spinal canal toward the spinal cord. Two cross sectional views of the right lower leg comparing normal anatomy with the post-accident compartment syndrome in this case. The post-accident image clearly shows the swelling of the internal musculature of the leg causing compression of the vessels and nerves in this region. The right ankle and foot reveal the fractures of the medial malleolus and multiple metatarsals.
